Gang of Four is derived from a very large, very popular Chinese family of card games often known under the name of Cho-Dai-Dih.The game is composed of sixty four cards, coming in six colored suites (2 green, 2 yellow and 2 red) of ten cards numbered 1 through 10, and four special cards, namely the multi-colored 1, the green and yellow phoenixes, and the red Dragon.At the beginning of the game, each player is dealt sixteen cards from the Deck. The object of the game is to get rid of those cards before the other players.This is achieved by playing cards in combinations similar to those of Poker, while keeping care to follow the game basic rule that "only a combination containing the same number of cards as the one currently in play" can be played, until all players have passed.At that point, the cards played are set aside, and a new combination of the last player's choice opens up a new round.Four-of-a-kinds, known as Gang of Fours, act as a trump in the game, and are the only exception to the game's basic rule of needing to play the same number of cards as currently in play.Game continues until a player empties his hand, at which point remaining cards are tallied up and penalty points given for each card kept.Once someone reaches 100 points, the game is over, and the holder of the lowest score declared winner of the game.Note: In addition to the basic rule mentioned in this Overview, aspiring players need to familiarize themselves with the rules used to compare combinations of an identical number of cards (say two 3-of-a-kind, or two 5-cards combinations) with each other.
